What a great day for the show. The sun was beating down and there wasn't a hint of bad weather on the horizon. Note to the local council though - Thanks for tarring and gritting the main roads nearby - you couldn't have chosen a better day to "improve" them! As I turned up at the show at about 11.00, there was a gradual influx of people starting to gather round the 10 or so machines that had arrived for the day's proceedings. By noon, the car park was filling up nicely with many different varieties of Harleys, Choppers, Custom Japs, Lowriders and Trikes. There weren't any rat bikes on show, which for my taste is good - 'cos I'm not really into matt black bikes with bits stuck on them (I'm not into radiators either but that's another story..) The local Outlaws did a great job on security and organised the entry tickets etc. £2 entry is not bad for a show that always produces well turned out machines - and provides musical entertainment through the day.
We all went to watch Men in Frocks and had a couple of beers and then relaxed in the garden for a while. WARNING! - don't use the plastic chairs that your girlfriend puts out for you - I did and ended up on the floor with a pint all over me! Lots of our friends turned up - some we hadn't seen since last year's show. Four judges had to argue and toss coins etc to decide who the lucky winners were. There was such a good turnout of bikes I'd hate to judge them - I mean, look at yesterdays judging I did at the Youthbike Show... I know that 'Blue' from Back Street Heroes, and Phil Piper who organises the show were two of the judges. I also think that one of the Outlaws, if not two, also helped judge.
In the end 3.00pm came and the winners were decided. It turns out that I was so relaxed I forgot to go and check my bike so various people had to come and find me to tell me that my name was being called for the winner of the Best Japanese Bike class.
... After that it was time to have a little chat with some very nice people who came to ask about Midnight Thunder and then off home - avoiding 'plod' who to be fair weren't seen by anyone I know.
Many thanks to Phil's Chopper Shack, Outback Seating, and Pageant Paintwork. Thank you letters are on their way to you. Next event - The Americana - see ya there! |
